Question: Is the Real Estate Principles class required for me to get my real estate salesperson license?
Answer: Yes. The Principles course is required to have been taken and successfully completed before a salesperson license will be issued by the Department of Real Estate. As of July 1, 2004, an examination applicant need only be enrolled in a Principles class in order to sit for the salesperson state exam. The license applicant will have had to have completed Real Estate Principles before s/he can be issued a license. It is the responsibility of the applicant to submit evidence (a transcript) of having completed a college-level course in Real Estate Principles.
Question: Are there any other college-level courses required for the Real Estate Salesperson License?
Answer: Yes. In addition to Real Estate Principles, the applicant must (either when qualifying for the examination, when applying for the original license, or
within eighteen {18} months after license issuance) submit an additional college-level course in Real Estate Practice and ONE additional course from the following list:
| - Real Estate Appraisal |
- Property Management |
| - Real Estate Economics/Accounting |
- Computer Applications in Real Estate |
| - Legal Aspects of Real Estate |
- Business Law |
| - Real Estate Finance |
- Real Estate Office Administration |
| - Mortgage Loan Brokering |
- Escrows |
Question: What happens if I don't complete the two (2) additional (statutory) courses that satisfy the eighteen (18) month conditional status to the salesperson license?
Answer:If you complete the Real Estate Principles course and pass the state exam (AND your license application is accepted by the DRE), you will be given a
conditional license. If you fail to submit acceptable evidence of having completed the 2 additional college-level courses within 18 months of the
conditional license effective date, your license will be automatically suspended until such time that you do submit evidence of completion of the 2 courses (Real Estate Practice and one from the above list).
Question: If my license gets suspended, how long to I have to take the 2 additional courses in order to lift the conditional suspension?
Answer:If your conditional license is suspended and you do not meet the conditional
license requirements (completion of the 2 additional courses), you have until the four (4) year expiration date, you can then only renew your license by
taking the state exam again.
